BATC on The Midday!

Tune in Thursday, March 16 from 12:00 – 12:30 pm, to hear BATC interviewed by Norman Gilliland on WPR.  Violinists Nathan Giglierano and Eleanor Bartsch, violist Marika Fischer Hoyt, and Eric Miller on viola da gamba, play movements from the Art of the Fugue by J.S. Bach, and answer questions about the upcoming Bach playathon on March 18.

You can tune in at your local WPR station, or online at WPR.org.

BATC is one of more than 80 Events during ‘Early Music Month’

Early Music America, an organization which fosters awareness and performance of early music, has designated the month of March as ‘Early Music Month.’  Doubtless, the choice of this month was influenced by the fact that two major early composers were born in March, Telemann (on the 14th) and J.S. Bach (on the 21st).

EMA invites organizations across North America to register as ‘Partners’ of Early Music month, and to list their event on a calendar.

EMA has announced that nearly 25o registered partners have listed more than 80 events; click here for the complete list.

Solo Violinist on board for Brandenburg No. 5!

Many thanks to Nathan Giglierano for stepping up to the plate!  He joins flutist Danielle Breisach and pianist Daniel Syverson as soloists in the effervescent Brandenburg Concerto No. 5.

The Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 is scheduled for 6:30 pm, on Saturday, March 18.

A little about Nathan:

Violinist Nathan Giglierano has performed across Europe, Central and North America. Nathan graduated with his Bachelor’s in Music from Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Marilyn McDonald, and recently earned his Master’s degree from UW-Madison under the tutelage of David Perry. Nathan also served as a teaching assistant in the Music Theory department at UW-Madison. In addition to playing and teaching music, Nathan loves photography and cooking with his wife, Gillian.

Meeting with Ken Stancer

Marika just had a very productive meeting with Ken Stancer, the music director and organist at St. Andrew’s. She got a tour of the beautifully renovated church, and worked out some more logistics for the big event on the 18th (NEXT WEEK!).

The lovely Parish Hall, downstairs from the Sanctuary, will be a space where audience members can take a break from the performances; there will be coffee and tea, snacks, wifi, and comfortable chairs and sofas.

BATC is so grateful to St. Andrew’s for making their facilities available for this event!

Interview on WORT 89.9 FM

BATC Director Marika Fischer Hoyt went on community radio station WORT, to chat with host Alan Muirhead about the upcoming festival, and play recordings of a few of the pieces that will be heard at the March 18 event.

The interview was streamed on facebook live; click here to access the BATC facebook page where the footage is a little ways down the page.

Thank you to Farley’s House of Pianos!

Farley’s House of Pianos has generously agreed to make available a Steinway grand piano for use during Bach Around The Clock.

Not only will solo pianists appreciate being able to perform on this instrument, but duo pianists will now also be able to participate.

Thank you, Farley’s, for helping bring the music of J.S. Bach to the Madison community.
