Message from BATC Artistic Director, Kathy Otterson

Hello, Bach fans!

BATC 2024 is “in the books,” it was a rousing success!  From Just Bach’s great program on Wednesday to the Virtual Festival, which went live on Sunday, we had five days of exciting performances by musicians as young as four and as old as…well…me! This festival is a beautiful testimony to the late Marika Fischer Hoyt’s passion and vision. I’m proud to have taken the reins and look forward to what the coming years will bring.

Thank you to all the performers – professional and amateur alike –  and their teachers, who made the Vocal Master Class, the Harpsichord events, the Marathon, and the Virtual Festival as good as possible. Thanks to the staff at St. Andrew’s for welcoming BATC these many years.  Thanks to generous donors and sponsors for providing the means to make the festival happen. And a special thanks to the members of the BATC Board for their boundless energy and hard work throughout the year and during the festival run. “Bach Around The Clock” could not have taken place without the energy and partnership of so many.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s 339th birthday is this month – March 21! It seems fitting to share this little fugue to celebrate. I’ll leave it to you to get your cake!

Fun facts about BATC 2024!

• Over 400 people attended one or more of the in-person events
• 185 performers – singers and instrumentalists, amateurs and professionals of all ages
• 31 different unique instruments, ranging from Baroque to modern, from harpsichord to calliope, from recorder to saxophone, from violin to bass guitar
• 48 generous donors and business sponsors helped us get very close to our goal of $8000 to support the costs of offering this free community music festival
